That's right, but not just any mosquito. It is the tiger mosquito or female Aedes aegypti mosquito, already involved for dengue fever, yellow fever and chikungunya.
The disease is transmitted through a mosquito bite. If a mosquito bites an animal or a human infected with the virus, it becomes contaminant in turn in the next 3 to 10 days and can transmit the virus to another human by pricking.
Once the virus is present, if the person is bitten by a mosquito-tiger in turn within 3 to 10 days after the infective bite, it can transmit the virus. And so on.
Some cases of sexual transmission between humans have been established as well.
